Okamatapati Combined School (CS) were crowned champions of the 2026 Clemens Rukatero Vihajo Okamatapati Soccer League over the weekend, finishing the season unbeaten despite controversy surrounding the competition’s conclusion.
Okamatapati CS collected 48 points from 18 matches, but the announcement of the winners was delayed by outstanding disputes, including allegations of teams fielding ineligible players.
League coordinator Wilson Nguvauva said organisers needed time to resolve several issues before confirming the final standings.
“Of course, we had issues with some teams who failed to honour their league obligations on the last day. We needed time to iron out these. Also, we had incidents of some teams that used ineligible players, and that caused the delay,” he said.
Head coach Zacky Rukuma described the championship as a reward for sacrifice, teamwork, discipline and determination, saying the achievement extended beyond lifting a trophy.
“We are proud of this achievement. Champions are not made when everything is easy; they are made when challenges test their character, commitment and determination to succeed,” he said.
Rukuma acknowledged that the journey had not been easy, but said the players remained focused and united despite the obstacles they encountered.
“Credit goes to the players for this historic achievement, and I also acknowledge the contribution of my assistant coach, Tjiunatjo Vesevete. We faced challenges that could easily have discouraged us, but we stood together, remained focused and fought until we reached our goal,” he said.
He added that the title belonged to everyone who contributed to the team’s success, including those working behind the scenes.
Ekuija Monjama finished second with 40 points from 18 matches, while defending champions Omurari wa Coblenz FC placed seventh with 22 points.
Tololo FC and Benoni FC occupied eighth and ninth positions respectively, both on 10 points but separated by goal difference. Scorpions FC finished bottom with 10 points.
Nguvauva said no teams would be relegated this season because there are no active lower leagues in the Okakarara constituency.
