Toluwanisings’ widow agrees for singer to be buried at home

According to a report by Daily Post on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the disagreement over the burial arrangements for late gospel singer Toluwanisings has been settled, with his widow, Damilola Olayemi, agreeing to the family’s request that he be laid to rest at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The development was disclosed by Lanre Alewilese, a close associate and colleague of the deceased, who addressed the controversy in an Instagram video on Sunday. He explained that the disagreement between Olayemi and her father-in-law had been resolved after what he described as a misunderstanding.

The dispute had attracted widespread attention following claims by members of the singer’s family that his widow opposed their plan to bury him at his home. According to the family, Olayemi preferred that her husband be buried in a cemetery instead.

Toluwanisings’ father had maintained that his son should be taken to his hometown for burial, preferably near his late mother, if the family’s residence in Ibadan could not be used as the final resting place.

The conflicting positions generated heated reactions on social media, with some users criticising the widow over her reported preference. The controversy also led to calls from some Nigerians for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.

However, Alewilese said both parties had reached an agreement, urging the public to stop directing attacks at Olayemi, who is still grieving the loss of her husband.

He appealed to Nigerians to allow the family to settle the matter privately, stressing that the widow should not be subjected to further public hostility.

“The disagreement between Toluwanisings’ father and his widow has been resolved. What happened was just a misunderstanding,” Alewilese said.

He added that the singer’s wife had agreed to the burial taking place at their house, bringing an end to the disagreement over where the late musician would be laid to rest.
