Former ZANU PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman Temba Mliswa has criticised Wicknell Chivayo over how he announced donations to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) following the jailing of 18 men who robbed his in-laws at Alpha and Omega Farm in Marondera in March 2025, shortly after he had paid lobola for his current wife.
Chivayo has offered to donate 10 bulletproof Toyota Fortuners, US$250,000 worth of tactical equipment and an iPhone 17 Pro Max for every officer in Harare’s CID Homicide division.
In a statement posted on X and Facebook, Chivayo praised the CID Homicide response team, investigating officers and commanders for their handling of the case.
“This proposed donation and gesture, if approved, is simply my small way of saying thank you for a job well done,” Chivayo said.
However, Mliswa said while he is not opposed to donations, such acts must be done in a way that protects the integrity of the institution involved.
He said it is important to observe proper decorum and respect when making such acknowledgements, warning that failure to do so could undermine the integrity and standing of the ZRP.
“The entire police force deserves support rather than the favour of a select few. Thus, it is essential to contribute to the ZRP as an entire entity, rather than creating the impression of purchasing control,” Mliswa wrote on X.
