Government has disbursed Constituency Development Fund (CDF) bursaries to all councils in the country ahead of schools opening this coming September.
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Dr. Ben Malunga Phiri said he was hopeful that needy students will be able to access the funds in their respective districts and go to school on time.
The Minister said the bursaries are part of government’s commitment to ensure equitable access to education and to reduce the burden on vulnerable households.
He urged council officials to ensure the funds are distributed transparently, fairly and on time to the identified beneficiaries.
“Let us make sure these resources reach the intended students. Headteachers, council officials and MPs must work together to verify the list of needy learners so that no one is left behind,” he added.
Dr. Phiri further emphasized that education remains a key pillar in building a skilled and productive population in line with Malawi Agenda 2063.
He called on parents and guardians to supplement government efforts by supporting learners with other school needs once fees have been covered.
The CDF Bursary program continues to support secondary and tertiary students from poor backgrounds across all 229 constituencies.
