Former Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has described Lionel Messi as the best player in the world currently.
Casemiro made the assertion following Inter Miami’s impressive 7-1 victory over CF Montreal.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner netted four goals for Angel Guillermo Hoyos’ team on Saturday, August 29.
Two of Messi’s four goals were spectacular free kicks, while he also assisted Luis Suarez’s goal.
Casemiro contributed to the scoreline by netting the opening goal for the Herons.
Speaking after the match, Casemiro hailed his Inter Miami teammate.
He said the Argentine remains the best player in the world, a status he believes Messi reaffirmed during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Casemiro told HITC Sport: “This is what it means to have Messi on your team. We must enjoy these moments because he is a person and a player who makes history.
“What we saw today, we must enjoy and continue to support him, and continue to compete with him, because he remains the best. And he proved that in the World Cup, and we must enjoy it with him, because with him we are truly much stronger.”
Casemiro joined Inter Miami this summer on a free transfer after his contract with Manchester United expired.
He has made nine appearances for the MLS team thus far, six of which were alongside Messi.
The Brazilian international has a long-standing club rivalry with the Argentine superstar. They were once fierce adversaries while playing for Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively.
The two have faced each other 20 times as rivals for club and country, with each winning eight matches and four encounters ending in draws.
