Man City lock horns with Champions League holders PSG
Fresh from their statement win at Anfield, Manchester City lock horns with Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain under the lights at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
These two European giants meet for the first time since PSG secured a 4-2 home victory over the Citizens in the League Phase of the 2024-25 competition.
For the first time since they were found guilty of breaching Premier League financial regulations, Man City stunned Anfield into silence with a convincing and remain top of the Premier League table after six matches.
Maresca’s predecessor Pep Guardiola will be at the Etihad on Wednesday for the first time since his legendary 10-year reign came to an end last season.
In front of an emotionally-charged Etihad crowd, Man City will back themselves to build on their strong form on Wednesday, as they have lost only one of their last 25 home fixtures in the group stage/League Phase of the Champions League (W21 D3).
PSG remain the team to beat in Europe’s premier club competition. Back-to-back Champions League winners PSG already sit top of the 36-team League Phase standings this season.
Amid all the adversity, Man City are in electric form at present and should feed off a vastly defiant and uplifting atmosphere at the Etihad, though they now face a formidable PSG side that has rediscovered its groove after recovering from a sluggish start to the campaign.
While both attack-minded teams will push relentlessly for the victory in what promises to be an entertaining, end-to-end contest, we can ultimately see these two sides cancelling each other out and sharing the spoils on this occasion.

Roma welcome**** Real Madrid**** **to the Stadio Olimpico **
Reconvening with Roma in the Champions League, 15-time winners Real Madrid will visit Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday.
For the second time this term, Madrid boss Jose Mourinho must face a former club, as Los Blancos try to extend their dominance over the Giallorossi.
Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid
While they were far from convincing on matchday one, Real Madrid started their latest Champions League campaign in familiar style, claiming maximum points on home turf.
Having suffered without the ball, conceded several chances and benefited from two glaring errors, the Spanish giants still beat Inter Milan, thanks to goals from Kylian Mbappe and Federico Valverde.
Madrid had kicked off La Liga with three straight wins, but they suffered defeats to Real Betis and city rivals Atletico Madrid before the international break, ramping up the pressure on Saturday’s game against Villarreal.
It was a close contest at the Bernabeu, but Los Blancos eked out a 1-0 win, with Yan Diomande scoring his first Madrid goal before Vinicius Junior was sent off – a decision loudly protested by Mourinho and co.
Already six points off the pace being set by league leaders Barcelona – this season’s first Clasico is coming up – they must swiftly switch focus to Europe.
After Inter last month, Mourinho now faces another reunion, having led Roma from 2021 to 2024. During that time, they underwhelmed in Serie A but won the inaugural Conference League, then reached the Europa League final.
Though the most recent meeting was eight years ago, Madrid have won all of the last four without conceding – plus five of six prior encounters in Rome.
Though the Olimpico is bound to be bouncing for the visit of European royalty, Roma’s collective strength may be undone by Madrid’s individual class.

Bodo/Glimt to cause European upset against Dortmund
Looking to cause a significant European upset, Bodo/Glimt welcome German giants Borussia Dortmund to Aspmyra Stadion for a League Phase Champions League clash on Wednesday night.
Serhou Guirassy, Dortmund
Superlaget were demolished by another Bundesliga powerhouse on matchday one of the competition, whilst BVB enjoyed a narrow success at Signal Iduna Park over Spanish outfit Villarreal.
Following their historic run to the round of 16 in last season’s Champions League, Bodo/Glimt were served a large dose of reality on September 10, when the 2026-27 schedule set up an opening trip to Bayern Munich.
Unsurprisingly, Vincent Kompany’s rampant troops made lightwork of their Norwegian visitors.
Since that bitterly-disappointing night at Allianz Arena, Bodo/Glimt have won three of their past four domestic fixtures.
Borussia Dortmund are once again to call upon the talents of Schlotterbeck and Ramy Bensebaini, who have completed suspensions carried over from last season’s Champions League.
However, BVB are expected to be without right-back Julian Ryerson, with the playmaker sustaining a rib injury whilst on international duty for Norway.
Dortmund need to recover quickly after their Bundesliga collapse on Friday, and it is set to be a difficult trip to the Arctic Circle for the Germans.

**A depleted Liverpool travel to face **LASK Linz
Hoping to put their disappointing weekend firmly in the past, a depleted Liverpool will travel to face LASK Linz at Raiffeisen Arena on Wednesday, for their second Champions League league-phase clash.
Ronald Araújo, Liverpool
The Black-Whites are looking for their first European points of the season, while the Reds are eyeing another victory.
Liverpool have endured a mixed season so far as the club undergoes a major transition, but they will be confident of success in midweek.
The Reds were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, though it would be fair to say that the Merseysiders were edging the contest prior to Ryan Gravenberch’s dismissal around the hour mark.
Keen to move on, Liverpool will be raring to build on last month’s commendable 2-1 victory against Atletico Madrid, which saw the team come from behind thanks to a Dominik Szoboslzai equaliser and a rocket from Alexis Mac Allister shortly after half time.
However, the Reds will likely be without the Hungary captain on Wednesday, as well as a host of key stars such as Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak, and it remains to be seen what level of attacking force they can muster as a result.
LASK are in poor form domestically and have struggled against English opponents in the past, so it would be a surprise to see them take anything from Wednesday’s clash.
