Grootfontein Show to create opportunities

Farmers, agricultural businesses and traders are expected to benefit from the 2026 Grootfontein Show, which will provide a platform for showcasing livestock, farming equipment, products and services from 23 to 25 September.

The annual event continues to serve as an important meeting point for the agricultural sector, bringing together producers, businesses and consumers from across Namibia.

This year’s show will feature livestock competitions, agricultural exhibitions, machinery displays and the first-ever small-stock stud auction, creating opportunities for breeders and businesses to connect and explore new markets.

Livestock remains one of the main attractions, with cattle breeders expected to travel to Grootfontein to participate. The introduction of the small-stock stud auction is expected to strengthen the Show’s role as a platform for livestock trading and networking among farmers.

“Livestock remains at the heart of the Grootfontein Show,” organisers said.

Agricultural businesses will also have an opportunity to display their products and services, including tractors, farming equipment and machinery used in the agricultural sector.

The event is expected to attract exhibitors from different industries, including businesses involved in food, clothing, jewellery and other products, giving small and medium enterprises a chance to reach new customers.

Apart from creating business opportunities, the show also contributes to the local economy through increased activity for traders, accommodation providers, food vendors and service providers during the three-day event.

“The show will also host the Namibian Saddlebred Horse Championships, attracting horse owners, competitors and visitors interested in the equestrian industry,” the organiser said. Grootfontein’s own equestrian history will be highlighted through Highland Joe, a locally bred Saddlebred horse that became a South African Grand Champion Fine Harness Horse four times and later produced several champions.

While agriculture and business remain central to the Show, organisers have included entertainment activities to attract families and visitors. This year’s theme is “Pirates”, with a traditional procession, exhibitions and family activities planned.

The Show’s art competitions, food stalls and entertainment activities are expected to create additional opportunities for local entrepreneurs and vendors.

Organisers said the Grootfontein Show has grown into an event where agriculture, business and social activities come together.

“Grootfontein has become known for creating a show where business, agriculture and competition go hand in hand with a great social atmosphere,” organisers said.

Daily entrance fees are N$50 for adults and N$30 for children aged seven to 18, while vehicle entry costs N$50. Children aged six and younger enter free, as do visitors aged 65 and older with identification.
