Five arrested as police probe assault on beer parlour owner in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection to an alleged assault and affray incident at Ori-Eru junction, Iwo.

The command made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday by Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, following reports circulating on social media alleging police inaction in the matter.

According to the police, the reports were made by human rights activist Nurudeen Ibraheem in collaboration with the children of the victim, Ibironke Arowolo.

The command said a case of assault occasioning harm was initially reported at the Iwo Divisional Police Headquarters by Ayetimiyi Oluwakemi against Ajani Saheed.

Police said the case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation, according to the command, established that two factions of commercial motorcyclists had been involved in a longstanding dispute over customers at Ori-Eru Junction.

The police said one faction was supported by Saheed, a 41-year-old hotel owner at the junction, while the other was allegedly supported by Arowolo, who owns a beer parlour in the same area.

The command said the dispute resurfaced on September 6, 2026, while efforts were being made to resolve the disagreement.

“During the confrontation, Saheed was allegedly injured on the head with a broken bottle by Samuel Ayetimiyi, 16.

“Supporters of Saheed, including Sodiq Yusuf and Olagoke Kolawole, allegedly invaded Arowolo’s shop after seeing that Saheed had been injured,” the statement added.

The command alleged that Arowolo was assaulted and sustained injuries to her face and other parts of her body, resulting in her admission to hospital for treatment.

Police also alleged that Doris Ayetimiyi, 19, who is Arowolo’s daughter, joined the ensuing confrontation with some customers who were present at the shop, while other participants remained at large.

The five arrested suspects were identified as Yusuf, 36 years of age ; Kolawole, 35 years of age; Saheed, 41 years of age; Samuel Ayetimiyi, 16 years of age ; and Doris Ayetimiyi, 19 years of age.

The command said they were arrested for alleged assault occasioning harm, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and affray, adding that they would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
