A man (25) allegedly sneaked into the premises of Eros Airport in Windhoek and accessed its VIP terminal, prompting an investigation into how he breached airport security.
National police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi says the suspect is a mental outpatient.
She says the incident occurred on 12 October at around 21h00.
“What I can confirm is that at Eros Airport, on Monday, 12 October 2026, at approximately 21h00, the suspect, Modestus Didalelwa, a Namibian (25), reported to be a mental outpatient on medication and under the care of the parents, unlawfully walked into the Eros Airport premises,” Shikwambi says.
She says police officers on duty subsequently apprehended the suspect.
A case of trespassing was registered under Windhoek police reference number CR302/10/2026, with investigations ongoing.
Didalelwa appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on 13 October and was released into the care of his parents, Shikwambi says.
His next court appearance is scheduled for 7 April 2027.
Shikwambi adds that internal investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding his entry into the airport premises.
Meanwhile, Affirmative Repositioning leader Job Amupanda claims that the man was found sitting on a sofa reserved for the president and had eaten food allegedly set aside for the head of state.
The police have not publicly confirmed these claims.
This incident comes five months after a reported security breach at State House.
On 30 April, Giano Seibeb, who was reported to have been diagnosed with schizophrenia, was allegedly found naked inside State House.
Following that incident, president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah dismissed Namibian Police inspector general Joseph Shikongo.
