Sevilla head coach Luis García Plaza has publicly confirmed that Nigerian winger Chidera Ejuke remains a key component of his tactical setup, valuing the Super Eagles star for his unpredictability and dribbling prowess.
The clarification comes after a summer of uncertainty for Ejuke, who was close to departing the club and was left out of portions of pre-season due to transfer interest.
However, after proposed moves collapsed, Garcia Plaza reintegrated the 27-year-old into the first team, a decision that has since been rewarded with positive performances, including a goal against Athletic Club and several impactful substitute appearances.
“Yes, of course. Of course I see it for more. And I, since I’ve been here, I’ve used Chidera Ejuke a lot. I don’t know the numbers with other coaches,” Garcia Plaza told futbolfantasy.
The manager explained that Ejuke’s ability to break down defenses and stretch opponents makes him a vital asset, whether deployed from the start or off the bench. Addressing recent lineup decisions, Garcia Plaza elaborated on the tactical flexibility required, noting that a late change in game plan led to Julio Díaz being preferred in a recent fixture over Ejuke.
“When I arrived I had, if I remember correctly, when I put it on the first day against Real Sociedad at home, a huge amount of games without being a starter. With me he has played all three League matches. Last year he participated, I put him in the headline,” Garcia Plaza added.
“I mean, I like Chidera Ejuke and I can play in principle. What happens is that it is true that, I have explained, we had a game plan that changes us a day before. Then we believed that the one who best adapted to how we had prepared the game was Julio Díaz.”
The coach concluded by emphasizing that different opponents require different solutions, but reiterated his confidence in Ejuke’s overall contribution to the squad’s attacking dynamics.
