Malema condemns Donovan Marx attack, then sings ‘Kill the Boer’

EFF leader Julius Malema has condemned the Donovan Marx farm attack, but later sang the controversial ‘Kill the Boer’ chant at a rally in Soweto.

Malema addressed supporters at Orlando Stadium on Saturday, 31 October, where he defended the struggle song.

His remarks followed Wednesday’s attack on Marx, 50, near Ventersdorp in North West. The attackers shot and stabbed him before cutting off both his ears.

“We never called for the literal killing of human beings,” Malema said, according to a report.

“The killing on the farms of our own farmers must stop.”

Malema demands justice for Donovan Marx

Malema questioned how anyone could commit such a brutal crime.

He urged police to bring the attackers to Orlando Stadium, where he said the EFF would teach them a lesson.

“How can we kill the people who are feeding us?” he asked.

Malema also accused the Government of National Unity of failing to protect rural communities.

He rejected claims of a white genocide in South Africa. However, he warned that continued farm killings fuelled the narrative.

“No white farmer must be killed. No black farmer must be killed. No woman must be killed,” he said.

The EFF leader insisted that the historical chant did not encourage violence. Instead, he blamed poor policing for attacks on farmers.

After his speech, Malema sang ‘Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer’ before supporters.

US demands action over ‘Kill the Boer’

Meanwhile, the United States has renewed pressure on South Africa following the attack on Marx.

According to a* Fox News* report published on Saturday, the US State Department accused South African politicians of endangering Afrikaners through racial incitement.

A spokesperson said Washington had demanded that government officials condemn calls for racial violence.

The US specifically raised the singing of ‘Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer’.

Furthermore, the Trump administration wants South Africa to classify rural crime as a priority crime.

Police have not established any connection between the chant and the attack on Marx.

Police arrest TWO suspects

North West police arrested two suspects on Saturday and recovered Marx’s stolen bakkie in Ikageng near Potchefstroom.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Arthur Peter Adams confirmed the arrests.

Investigators are also searching for another suspect.

Marx remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
