PSG vs Barcelona preview, team news, h2h: Ex-Nigeria target ready to test PSG’s leaky defence

PSG vs Barcelona, one of the most anticipated matches of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase, is finally here.

The two most impressive teams in this season's Champions League meet at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday evening, when Paris Saint-Germain host Barcelona in a league-phase fixture that could define the early standings for both clubs. Both arrive unbeaten in Europe, having won their opening two matches; kickoff is 20:00 WAT (21:00 local time in Paris).

Among the intriguing aspects of Hansi Flick's Barcelona is Karim Adeyemi, the Germany international born to a Nigerian father and Romanian mother, who joined from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

A former Super Eagles target, Adeyemi has scored in each of his two Champions League appearances for the club, both from the bench, making him a potent impact option.

PSG vs Barcelona: Form guide

Luis Enrique's Paris Saint-Germain have won their last six matches, scoring 19 goals, with the 4-2 win at Manchester City the most compelling statement of their European ambitions. The 3-1 win at Strasbourg on Saturday, secured through a second-half comeback with a rotated side, added evidence of the squad's depth.

PSG have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last five matches, giving away at least one goal each time, a vulnerability Barcelona will look to exploit.

Barcelona have won all nine La Liga matches, equalling the record start to a Spanish top-flight season set by Real Madrid in 1968-69, and added a 5-2 win at Real Betis on Saturday with Lamine Yamal, Rodri, Gabriel Jesus, Eric García and Dani Olmo all among the scorers.

In Europe, Flick's side came from behind to win 4-1 at Galatasaray on matchday two, with Adeyemi scoring the fourth goal having entered the game from the bench with 25 minutes remaining.

Lamine Yamal has registered 19 goal contributions in 11 competitive appearances this season, a rate that puts him among the most productive attackers in European football; if PSG's defence concedes him space to operate, it may well decide the match.

Adeyemi against Hakimi: where Barcelona may find their opening

Achraf Hakimi's instinct to join PSG's attacks creates space in behind his position that a pace-based forward can exploit. Adeyemi, whose two Champions League goals for Barcelona arrived after he ran in behind a committed defensive line, is exactly the type of runner built to target those moments.

PSG have conceded in all five of their most recent matches across all competitions. When games open up in the second half and defensive lines advance, Adeyemi's ability to arrive late from the bench and run in behind against an advanced Hakimi offers Barcelona one of their sharpest attacking threats.

PSG vs Barcelona: Team news

PSG are without Nuno Mendes and Senny Mayulu, with Lucas Digne expected at left-back and Maghnes Akliouche a doubt after Strasbourg.

Barcelona carry concerns over Eric García and Gerard Martín after Saturday's Betis win. Koundé is expected to start, Raphinha is pushing for a starting role after returning from injury, and Adeyemi should come off the bench.

Predicted XI (4-3-3) – PSG: Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Digne; Fabián Ruiz, Vitinha, João Neves; Doué, Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1) – Barcelona: Joan García; Koundé, Cubarsí, Gerard Martín, Cancelo; Rodri, Pedri; Yamal, Fermín López, Gordon; Raphinha.

The Verdict PSG 2-1 Barcelona PSG's attacking quality at home and their depth from the bench edges this narrow fixture in the hosts' favour, though Barcelona's own firepower ensures both sides will score. Likely scorers: Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia (PSG); Yamal (Barcelona).
