‎High Chief Shot Dead During Burial Ceremony In Ondo

‎A traditional High Chief has been shot dead during a burial ceremony in Ayeka, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

‎The incident occurred on Tuesday while traditional funeral rites were being performed for another deceased High Chief in the community.

‎According to sources, some participants were reportedly firing guns into the air as part of the traditional ceremony when one of the bullets struck the victim in the head.

‎The victim reportedly died instantly from the gunshot wound.

‎The identity of the deceased had yet to be officially disclosed as of the time of filing this report.

‎Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said one suspect had been arrested in connection with the incident.

‎“One suspect arrested meanwhile thorough investigation has commenced. More details to come, pls,” Jimoh said.

‎The police spokesperson did not disclose the identity of the suspect or provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

‎The incident has thrown the community into mourning, while the police investigation is expected to establish how the firearm was discharged and determine those responsible for the death.
