Asiimwe reflects on international adaptation, home support after Libya win

Uganda Cranes defender Nathan Asiimwe has reflected on his growing transition into international football, admitting that adapting to the demands of the national team setup has been a rewarding challenge following Uganda’s 1-0 win over Libya at Hoima City Stadium.
The roving right back, who featured prominently as Paul Put’s side secured back-to-back positive results, revealed that adjusting to the national team environment requires taking in continuous instruction from the technical bench.
Speaking after the home victory in Hoima, Asiimwe highlighted the stark tactical differences between club football and the international arena.
“International football is different from club football, so I have had to adapt to a few things. I have had to listen to coaches as much as possible. It’s been a great experience that I have always looked forward to, and it’s been exciting,” Asiimwe said.
Despite playing in a relatively new home venue for the national team, the young defender was full of praise for the passionate home support in Hoima.
According to Asiimwe, the crowd’s energy made the transition seamless for the squad.
“Playing on the home turf exceeded my expectations. The crowd was great, and even though it was a new place for us to play, the fans made us truly feel at home,” he added.
Having now registered back-to-back starts and building consistency in national colours, Asiimwe expressed confidence in his trajectory and aims to grow into a pivotal role for the Cranes moving forward.
“It’s been great having back-to-back games putting on the jersey. I should be more confident, and hopefully, I can do so.”
The 1-0 triumph over Libya reinforces Uganda’s progress in their qualification journey, with head coach Paul Put continuing to integrate fresh talent into the squad ahead of upcoming international windows.
