Fresh Blow to Ruto as Oburu’s Sister Makes this Bold Demand ahead of 2027 Elections

Ruth Odinga has strongly warned that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) cannot enter into a coalition with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) without a binding legal agreement.

Ruth questioned remarks attributed to Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, suggesting that the Luo community should trust and work with UDA without a formal agreement. She said the statement raised serious concerns about the future of political partnerships in Kenya.

She strongly rejected attempts to describe ODM as a Luo party, insisting that it is a national political organisation with supporters across different counties. She noted that the party has a presence in Western, Coast and Turkana regions, adding that Nyanza is only one of its strongholds.

Ruth also reminded Kenyans of past political agreements that were not fully implemented, leaving some leaders and communities disappointed. She argued that such experiences show why political parties must avoid relying on promises without clear legal commitments.

According to her, the Political Parties Act provides a clear framework for coalition agreements. Such agreements should explain how coalitions will be managed, how leaders will be elected, how disputes will be resolved and how a coalition can be dissolved.

She further noted that ODM had worked with other parties through CORD in 2013, NASA in 2017 and Azimio in 2022 without abandoning its identity, values and political principles.

Ruth maintained that ODM must remain independent even when working with other political parties. She insisted that any future coalition must have a legally binding agreement that protects the interests of all participating parties.

She concluded that any arrangement without such protection would be unacceptable to ODM supporters.
