Johannesburg to Zimbabwe flights: The cheapest city to fly to

Travellers flying from Johannesburg to Zimbabwe have several destinations to choose from, but the price of a ticket can vary significantly depending on where they are heading.

Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls are among the main Zimbabwean destinations served from Johannesburg, with current fares showing a clear difference between the three.

Harare offers the cheapest flight

Harare currently appears to be the cheapest Zimbabwean destination to fly to from Johannesburg.

Fastjet is advertising return economy fares from US$262, equivalent to about R4 190, for selected September and October 2026 travel dates.

The airline’s website also shows one-way fares from US$112, or approximately R1 790.

South African Airways is also displaying a Johannesburg-Harare return economy fare from R3 159 for selected dates in September and October.

This makes Harare the strongest option for travellers primarily looking for the lowest airfare.

Victoria Falls flights cost more

Victoria Falls is the second-cheapest option in the current Fastjet comparison.

The airline is advertising return economy flights from Johannesburg to Victoria Falls from US$328, which works out to about R5 250 at an exchange rate of roughly R16 to the US dollar.

Victoria Falls can therefore cost about R1 000 more than the lowest Fastjet fare to Harare, although prices vary according to the dates selected.

Bulawayo is the most expensive

For travellers heading to Bulawayo, the current fares are higher.

Fastjet is showing return economy tickets from Johannesburg to Bulawayo from US$420, or roughly R6 720.

Some September fares are listed between US$420 and US$439.

Based on these fares, Bulawayo is currently the most expensive of the three destinations.
