EES returns with Freshness
AI summary
After more than 25 years in the game, Namibian musician Eric Sell, popularly known as EES, is proving that evolution has no expiration date.
The musical talent dropped his 16th studio album, Freshness, a vibrant 15-track project that masterfully blends his
signature roots with the red-hot rhythms of Amapiano.
Serving as a sonic bridge between his deeply connected fanbase back home and listeners across Europe, the album is a bold, contemporary reinvention that sets the stage for his upcoming Freshness Tour 2026 in Germany this September.
“I chose the name Freshness because I felt that I needed to bring some new energy into my music. After more than 25 years of making music, I have experienced many different phases and sounds, and I didn’t want to simply repeat what I had done before,” he said.
EES felt that Amapiano opened up a whole new world of rhythms and production, and he wanted to blend it with his Kwaito roots and Namibian flavour.
“So, Freshness is really about evolution, taking everything I have learned over the years and giving it a new energy without losing who I am.”
The album features previously released singles like Manuva, You Smell So Good, Beautiful Enough, Aye Ayo and Big, Round and Beautiful, along with new material and collaborations.
Without missing a beat, EES has stayed grounded while serving two different fan bases at home and in Europe.
“In Namibia, there is already a very strong cultural connection because people understand where my music comes from. They understand the Kwaito influence, the Namibian slang, the stories and the way I represent Namibia. There is a familiarity there that is very special to me,” he explained.
“In Europe, I have had to build that connection over many years. My audience here comes from many different backgrounds, and I think what ultimately connects people is the music itself. They might not understand every Namibian reference, but they understand the energy, the rhythm and the emotion.”
For EES, Namibia remains an important part of his journey, giving him the strength to go out there, be himself, and be proudly Namibian.
Freshness also reflects the connection between my two musical worlds. Growing up with Namibia as my cultural foundation and building much of my professional career in Germany have given me a unique perspective on African music, European audiences, and how different musical influences can come together.
Rather than recreating the past, the album takes these experiences forward, presenting them through a contemporary sound while keeping Namibia, its culture, and its influence clearly visible in the music.
The release will also be followed by the Freshness Tour 2026 in Germany from the 18th to the 27th September, during which he will perform the new material with his eight-piece brass live band.
“For the Freshness Tour 2026, I will be performing in Hamburg, Cologne, Krefeld and Düsseldorf. I have been performing with a live band for almost 18 years. This is also my third German album tour, I previously toured Germany with my two albums before Freshness. I am very grateful to have built an audience in Europe while remaining connected to Namibia. For me, the two worlds are not competing; they are part of who I am.”
He added, “It definitely won’t be my first tour with a band. I started my live-band project in 2008, so I have been performing with a live band for almost 18 years. This is also my third album tour in Germany. I previously toured Germany with my two albums before Freshness.”
