A 20-year-old man from Gutu allegedly set his brother’s kitchen hut on fire after an argument over a memory card, destroying property worth US$300.
Rerai Mutambasere appeared before Masvingo magistrate Archie Wochiunga on Tuesday, charged with destroying property worth US$300.
The court heard that the incident happened at around 1 am on 1 June 2026 at Mutambasere Village under Chief Munyikwa in Gutu.
Prosecutor Liberty Hove said Pikirai Mutambasere, 23, was asleep in a kitchen hut at his homestead when his brother arrived demanding a memory card.
Pikirai told him he had already returned the card to its owner, Zvishati Mhiko.
Rerai then went to Mhiko’s homestead to demand the card but was turned away.
He allegedly went back to Pikirai’s homestead angry, demanded the memory card again and set the hut on fire.
Pikirai woke up and escaped. He tried to put out the fire with help from neighbours, but it had already spread.
The hut was destroyed, along with a double bed, plates, pots, cups, clothes and shoes.
