Finding new events for you and your friends to enjoy can be a hustle. I usually spend a lot of time searching through instagram just to find that one new thing i might like. The alternative being scrolling on tiktok and by chance landing on an event ad. The new startup KoopyKwacho could be the solution to these problems.
KoopyKwacho, a web app created by Jimmy Chirinda is a platform that helps with the discovery of upcoming events by putting them in one place. Jimmy’s background in photography inspired the idea that came alive 2 years ago as an Instagram page and evolved to the website it has become today.
“As a photographer and content creator, I attend and cover many events across Zimbabwe. I noticed that people were constantly asking, “What’s happening this weekend?” or “Where can I find events?” Jimmy said about the inspiration.
I managed to visit the website and from what I could see the landing page of the website is clean and easy to navigate through with clear options but the bright colors used for the design can be a bit distracting.
Another interesting feature I noticed was their AI powered assistant which can be of great help. I managed to plan for an event with its help and most of the details and responses it gave me were spot on. The assistant is a strong feature if used well.
I could not help but notice that the number of events were low especially in places outside Harare, with some only having 1 event .This poses a bigger threat to their startup’s survival as users may become less likely to come back and of course in return event organisers and advertisers will not take the web-app seriously.
KoopyKwacho also faces intense competition. In recent years, numerous Zimbabwean web apps offering similar services have entered the market, making it difficult for users to distinguish one platform from another. Despite this growing competition, many of these platforms have struggled to achieve sustained success.
According to Chirinda they gained1100 visits with 80 registered users within 10 days of their web app launch. They are aiming to catch the eyes of sponsors and advertisers for their revenue.
KoopyKwacho is a platform I can see myself using although there is still some polishing that could be done especially in the quantity and quality of events available. Their success will also be determined by how well they can manage to market the platform and gain users who still use the traditional ways of Instagram, Tiktok or word of mouth like myself.
As the holidays near , the people’s response to the website at the busiest time of the year will be a clear tell on whether the website sticks or is ignored like all the others.
