**DODOMA: **PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has witnessed the swearing-in of the newly elected Vice-President, Deogratius Ndejembi, urging him to regard the position as a responsibility to serve Tanzanians and not as a privilege or kingdom.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony in Dodoma on Saturday, the Head of State revealed that the decision to appoint Mr Ndejembi was based on his qualifications, leadership experience, discipline, professionalism and youthful energy, which she said would enable him to effectively execute the duties entrusted to him.
“A position of authority is a trust. The position we have given you is not a kingdom; it is a trust. Serve all Tanzanians regardless of their differences,” the President stated.
According to the President, the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Central Committee and National Executive Committee had carefully considered Mr Ndejembi’s qualities before proposing and endorsing his name for the position.

additionally, she stated that the party had unanimously agreed to give the Vice-Presidency to a young leader as part of efforts to nurture the country’s next generation of leaders.
“It has come from a young person and we have returned it to a young person. Now, young man, we ask you to grow, not in age, but in wisdom and intellect,” she said.
Moreover, the President congratulated Mr Ndejembi on his appointment and expressed confidence that his previous experience in various leadership positions in the public and private sectors would help him discharge his new responsibilities effectively.
She said although there was no formal school that taught people how to become vice-presidents, qualities such as hard work, discipline, professionalism, willingness to learn and the ability to supervise implementation were essential for success.
However, she urged the new Vice-President to continue learning from other leaders and to use the experience he had acquired over the years for the benefit of the nation.
‘Tanzanians and the country as a whole expects you to serve the country with loyalty, integrity, patriotism, humanity, wisdom, knowledge and experience, while putting God first and prioritising national interests,’she said.
The President also thanked Parliament for approving and endorsing Mr Ndejembi for the position, saying the decision was based on his qualifications and suitability for the responsibilities.
Furthermore, President Samia told the new Vice- President that the government has a number of commitments to fulfil under the CCM election manifesto and its development agenda towards 2030 as well as highlighting the implementation of the country’s 25-year development vision, which she said carries major aspirations for economic and social development and improved livelihoods for Tanzanians.
According to President Samia, achieving these objectives requires unity, cooperation, solidarity, peace, stability and good leadership.
She urged Mr Ndejembi to work closely with other government leaders and ensure that these principles guide him in executing his responsibilities.
“Together and through cooperation with other leaders within the government, we can achieve the aspirations and expectations of Tanzanians,” she said.
