Nine-year-old Charlotte Muritala from Offa, Kwara State, is drawing attention for using TikTok to make mathematics easier and more engaging for other children.
A JSS2 student, Charlotte developed an interest in mathematics at about the age of five and has since turned her passion for numbers into online lessons. Using a whiteboard, marker and smartphone, she creates videos explaining mathematical concepts in simple, step-by-step terms.
Her lessons cover topics including algebra, fractions and lowest common multiple, with Charlotte breaking down problems she believes can appear difficult to young learners.
Speaking to Channels Television on Monday, Charlotte said her love for numbers was what first drew her to mathematics.
“I started liking mathematics since when I was small. I love mathematics because I enjoy numbers,” she said.
Rather than becoming discouraged by difficult questions, Charlotte said she breaks them into smaller parts before attempting to solve them.
“First, I like breaking them into small parts. That makes it easier for me,” she explained.
She added that when one approach does not work, she looks for another method and tackles the problem step by step.
Charlotte’s approach has turned an everyday school subject into an opportunity to teach and encourage other children online.
