PICTORIAL: Hanga, Yako, Abiya Others Join APC in Kano

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State on Saturday received 136,038 new members, including prominent politicians from opposition parties.

The defectors were received at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata on Saturday, during the unveiling of campaign support groups for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Among the prominent politicians who joined the APC were Senators Rufa’i Sani Hanga and former Governor Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, as well as the Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) “Fruit Faction”, Senator Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa.

Others included the Deputy Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Hon. Ali Datti Yako, alongside members of the party’s state executive committee.

Former Chairman of Ungogo Local Government Area, Hon. Badaru Umar, also defected to the APC with members of the political camp of the party’s 2023 governorship candidate in Kano State, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.

The former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Isyaku Ali Danja, joined the ruling party alongside his supporters.

Also received into the APC were former PDP deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Yusuf Bello Danbatta, and his supporters, as well as former Special Adviser to the President, Senator Baraka Sani.

The NNPP chairman of the “Book Faction”, Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya, was also among the defectors.

Former NNPP senatorial candidate, Senator Abdulmajid Dauda Dandawaki, joined the APC with his supporters, while Hon. Kabiru Adamu Kofar Ruwa, an NDC candidate for the Kano State House of Assembly, also defected with his supporters.

Their defection, alongside the reported 136,038 new members, is expected to provide the APC with additional political structures and grassroots support across the state’s 44 local government areas.
