Don’t Flout Directive On Environmental Sanitation, Commissioner Warns

Abia State commissioner for Environment, Philemon Ogbonna, has warned residents not to flout the ministry’s directive to participate in Saturday’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP Friday, the commissioner said such defaulters shall be arrested and prosecuted in line with the State Basic Environmental Law

“The general public is hereby informed that the monthly sanitation exercise for the month of September will be held on Saturday between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00 am”, the statement said.

“Movement of people and vehicles during the period shall be restricted except those on essential duties who would be required to present on demand, valid identification or any authentic authorisation for such exemption.”

“All markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies, as well as business premises, are to remain closed on Friday between the hours of 7:00:am and 9:00:am.”

“Local council chairmen and leaders at all levels in the state are required to monitor and sensitise their people on the importance of the exercise and to participate as well.”

‎It added that the Nigeria Police, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps are to assemble at their usual take-off point for deployment.
