POLICE WARN OF ROAD CLOSURES AHEAD OF PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S INAUGURATION
THE Zambia Police Service has announced heightened security and temporary road closures ahead of President Hakainde Hichilema’s inauguration scheduled for Tuesday at the National Heroes Stadium.
Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi says adequate numbers of police officers have been deployed at the venue and other strategic locations, while patrols have been intensified to maintain public safety and order.
In a statement, Chilabi said the increased presence of law enforcement officers was not meant to intimidate members of the public.
“The presence of police officers is not intended to intimidate members of the public, but to ensure maximum safety and security before, during and after the event,” he said.
Chilabi warned motorists to expect temporary road closures and traffic diversions on roads leading to the stadium to facilitate the movement of the Presidential motorcade, dignitaries and official processions.
He urged motorists to cooperate with traffic police officers and plan their journeys in advance.
Chilabi further advised members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to security personnel, assuring the nation that law and order would be maintained throughout the event.
