Five constituency youth organisers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western Region have appealed to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, to prioritise youth in the party’s grassroots structures in emerging employment opportunities.
The youth organisers, from Jomoro, Takoradi, Sekondi, Essikado-Ketan and Ellembelle constituencies, made the appeal when they paid a courtesy call on Mr Armah-Kofi Buah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle.
Led by the Ellembelle Constituency Youth Organiser, McDonald Kwofie, the delegation used the engagement to reaffirm their commitment to peace, unity and the strengthening of the NDC’s youth structures across the region.
They urged the Minister to consider branch-level youth organisers in the recruitment of workers for the various cooperative mining operations the government is expected to roll out.
The organisers also appealed for greater inclusion of young people in employment opportunities expected to be created under the government’s mining reclamation programme.
According to them, giving young people opportunities to participate in such programmes would not only create jobs but also strengthen their involvement in economic and community development.
The engagement also focused on the need for greater unity and collaboration among the party’s executives, elected representatives, youth organisers and grassroots members.
The youth organisers said peace and stability should remain central to the activities of the NDC, stressing that a peaceful political environment was necessary for effective mobilisation and development.
They further expressed their determination to help build a vibrant youth wing capable of engaging young people, promoting the values of the party and encouraging greater participation in political and community activities.
They noted that young people formed a significant component of the party’s support base and, therefore, required the necessary space, leadership opportunities and platforms to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the NDC.
Minister Mr Armah-Kofi Buah welcomed the youth organisers and commended them for initiating the engagement, stressing the importance of continuous interaction between elected representatives and the party’s youth structures.
The Minister, who is also the patron of the NDC youth wing in the Western Region, encouraged the youth organisers, whom he described as the “frontline army” of the party, to remain disciplined, committed and united.
He urged them to put the collective interests of the party above individual differences and maintain peaceful and respectful political engagement, particularly at the grassroots level.
Mr Armah-Kofi Buah said sustained engagement among party members and leaders was important to strengthening the party’s structures and support base across the region.
The meeting ended with a shared commitment to intensify grassroots mobilisation, promote unity and support initiatives aimed at strengthening the NDC’s presence in the Western Region.
The five youth organisers—Ernest Anaman of Jomoro, Afriyie-Tsibu Kwabena of Takoradi, Emmanuel Kweku Mensah of Sekondi, Alidu Adama of Essikado-Ketan and McDonald Kwofie of Ellembelle—reaffirmed their readiness to work with party leaders and members across the region.
They said they would continue to contribute to building a stronger and more cohesive youth movement while promoting peace and development in the region.
