Sack Looming: Pirates Top Management Secretly Reaches Out to Rival Coach After 3-0 Disaster

Kruger United DStv Diski Challenge head coach Lizo Mjempu has revealed how an impressive victory over Orlando Pirates helped put him on the radar of the Soweto giants.

Speaking to KickOff in In The Spotlight, Mjempu reflected on his football journey and the moments that shaped his coaching career.

One of the standout chapters came after Kruger United produced a convincing 3-0 victory over Pirates. The performance did more than earn his team an important result — it also attracted attention from one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.

“Bucs showed interest in me after we beat them 3-0,” Mjempu revealed, highlighting the impact that result had on his growing reputation.

For Mjempu, the interest was a significant recognition of the work he had been doing on the touchline. His coaching journey has continued to develop through the Diski Challenge, where young players are given an important platform to develop and compete at a high level.

The Kruger United coach has increasingly built a reputation around nurturing talent while demanding competitive performances from his side.

His story also underlines how opportunities in South African football can emerge from unexpected moments. A single result against a high-profile opponent can open doors, particularly for coaches making their mark in the development structures.

Mjempu’s journey remains one to watch as he continues to build his coaching profile and guide the next generation of players.
