DAR ES SALAAM: The Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office for Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities, Deus Sangu, has urged employers in the country to take advantage of the penalty waiver issued by the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to settle outstanding employee contribution arrears.

He said the initiative would help reduce business operating costs, increase productivity, and contribute to national economic growth.

Minister Sangu said the waiver is part of the Sixth-Phase Government’s efforts under President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan to improve the business environment, strengthen social security systems, and address challenges facing employers in order to enhance productivity in the private sector and the labour market as a whole.

He made the remarks in Dar es Salaam during the 67th Annual General Meeting of the Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE), where he also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NSSF and ATE.

The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions, facilitate the exchange of information and experience, and improve efficiency in the implementation of their mandates for the benefit of employers, employees, and the nation at large.

On his part, NSSF Director General Masha Mshomba said the waiver took effect on June 1, 2026 and will run until December 31, 2026, with the aim of providing relief to employers, reducing costs, and enabling them to sustain productive operations.

He added that cooperation between NSSF and ATE will enhance social security education and improve awareness among employers and employees on the importance of social protection systems.

ATE Chief Executive Officer Suzanne Ndomba-Doran commended NSSF’s decision to waive penalties and charges, saying it will give employers an opportunity to regularize their contributions and fulfill their legal obligations without significantly affecting the sustainability of their businesses.
