The Federal Government has said it intends to present the 2027 budget to the National Assembly before the end of 2026, as preparations intensify for the next fiscal year.
Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Responding to questions on the timetable for the budget presentation, the minister said the government was working towards submitting the estimates before the end of the year.
“And the intention is to present it before the end of the year,” she said.
Uzoka-Anite also announced that FEC had approved the revised National Policy on Food and Nutrition in Nigeria 2026 and the National Nutrition Bill 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s response to malnutrition and improve the health and well-being of vulnerable Nigerians.
She explained that the two documents were developed through collaboration among the Office of the Vice President, the Ministries of Budget and Economic Planning, Agriculture, Livestock, Education and Health, as well as the private sector, National Assembly and development partners.
According to her, the revised policy and proposed legislation would provide a framework for coordinating and implementing food and nutrition programmes across the country, while promoting sustainable funding, accountability and stronger institutional collaboration.
The minister said the measures were particularly intended to address childhood stunting and other nutrition-related challenges affecting the health and development of Nigerians.
She disclosed that the National Nutrition Bill 2026, which is an executive bill, would be forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration.
Uzoka-Anite also congratulated President Tinubu on the successful hosting of the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit, held in Abuja from October 26 to 28.
She said the summit provided an opportunity for the government to present the National Development Plan 2026–2030, which, according to her, was well received and endorsed by the private sector.
The minister explained that the plan was designed to provide a framework for economic transformation through job creation, increased productivity and shared prosperity.
She expressed confidence that the government’s policy initiatives and collaboration with the private sector would strengthen implementation of the national development agenda.
