United States singer Lionel Richie has been hospitalised in St Louis, Missouri, United States, after falling ill following his concert at The Muny in Forest Park on Saturday night.
The 77-year-old singer reportedly went to hospital after the performance as a precaution and was treated in the intensive care unit while doctors carried out tests.
He remains hospitalised as of Monday afternoon and is expected to be discharged on Tuesday, according to TMZ.
Sources said Richie sought medical attention out of an abundance of caution, with doctors reportedly considering dehydration as a possible cause of his condition.
The hospitalisation came after concert attendees noticed that Richie appeared to be struggling towards the end of his St Louis performance. While performing his final song, his iconic hit All Night Long, he asked for a chair and continued singing while seated.
The development has renewed concerns about the singer’s health, coming about two months after he fell ill during a concert in St Paul, Minnesota.
Richie had been performing at the Grand Casino Arena in June as part of his joint Sing A Song All Night Long tour with Earth, Wind & Fire when he stopped the show during a performance of Three Times a Lady.
His band later left the stage, and more than 40 minutes after the interruption, saxophonist Dino Soldo returned to inform the audience that Richie would not be able to continue.
”Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well, said saxophonist Dino Soldo, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune. He won’t be able to continue. Additional information will be available.”

Fans who attended the Minnesota concert also expressed concern on social media, saying Richie had appeared unwell during the performance.
Videos from the show showed the singer sitting down several times while performing Dancing On The Ceiling, his second-to-last song. He reportedly also told the audience he was feeling ‘dizzy’.
