He has been quietly visiting EOCO for months to sort his own issues out, no noise, no drama –Kwabena

Political commentator Cecil Kwabena has described lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea as one of the “dangerous guys in Ghana politics,” alleging that the experienced politician and legal practitioner has been making discreet visits to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for several months.

According to Kwabena, Atta Akyea has reportedly visited the office quietly, without attracting public attention or creating unnecessary controversy. He suggested that the lawyer had been attending to certain matters behind the scenes while remaining largely unnoticed by the public.

Kwabena’s comments also drew attention to the contrast between the public focus on Atta Akyea’s role as lead counsel for Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah and the alleged private visits to EOCO. His remarks implied that while the lawyer has been defending his client in a high-profile case, he may also have been addressing personal matters away from the public spotlight.

The claims have added another dimension to discussions about accountability and transparency within Ghana’s political and legal circles. Atta Akyea, a former minister and sitting Member of Parliament, is known for his outspoken views on parliamentary privilege and his criticism of EOCO’s handling of certain cases. Kwabena’s allegations have therefore prompted questions about whether political figures face the same level of scrutiny as ordinary citizens when matters involving investigative institutions arise.

The commentary has also generated differing reactions online. Some supporters have praised Kwabena for raising concerns about what they perceive as hidden dealings among members of the political class. Others have warned that allegations of this nature should be treated cautiously in the absence of official confirmation, arguing that unverified claims could encourage speculation and weaken public confidence in institutions.

Ultimately, Kwabena’s remarks have renewed conversations about the relationship between politics, the law and public accountability. By suggesting that influential figures may conduct important dealings away from public view, he has drawn attention to the need for transparency and equal treatment under the law. However, his allegations about Atta Akyea’s visits to EOCO remain unverified and should not be treated as established facts without further evidence.
