The Kano-Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service says it has generated ₦88.9 billion in revenue so far in 2026, recording a significant increase from its mid-year collection.
The Deputy Comptroller of Customs in charge of the command, Umar Adamu, disclosed this on Friday during a press briefing at the Customs House in Bompai, Kano.
According to him, the command generated ₦63.07 billion during the first half of the year, while its year-to-date revenue has now risen to ₦88.92 billion.
He said July 2026 recorded the highest monthly revenue collection in the history of the command, with more than ₦14 billion generated.
Beyond revenue collection, Adamu said the command had intensified enforcement operations against smuggling and other violations of Nigeria’s customs laws.
Among the items intercepted or detained were 1,491 cartons of foreign spaghetti, 2,928 packs of foreign macaroni, 35 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 19 bags of expired foreign rice, 3,000 jerry cans of foreign vegetable oil, and 514 cartons of assorted soaps.
The command also intercepted eight suspected diverted transit truck heads and seven smuggled vehicles, with a combined duty-paid value running into hundreds of millions of naira.
In the pharmaceutical sector, Customs said it intercepted 712,690 tablets of unregistered medicines, alongside 17,470 vials and ampoules.
The products have been handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for further action.
The command also reported the interception of 48 endangered wildlife species on August 25, including 15 primates, among them chimpanzees, gorillas and bush babies, as well as four wild cats, including civets and caracals.
Adamu said the seizures underscored the command’s commitment to protecting the economy, public health, national security and the environment while enforcing the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023
