The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have fixed N4,000 as a one-off fee for the verification of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and other O’Level results for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Under the new arrangement, candidates will be required to verify their WAEC results only once through JAMB, after which the verification outcome will be made available to the relevant institutions for admission screening and other administrative purposes.
The two examination and admission bodies said the initiative was designed to reduce the financial burden and stress associated with repeated verification of candidates’ academic records by tertiary institutions.
In a joint statement issued by JAMB and WAEC, the organisations said candidates would be able to initiate the verification process from the comfort of their homes or any internet-enabled location.
The statement said, “All candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results once, through JAMB.”
It added that the outcome of the verification would subsequently be made available to the institution to which the candidate sought admission.
On the cost of the service, JAMB and WAEC said, “Candidates are to pay N4,000 only, once, for the verification of their WASSCE O’ Level results on the specified platform and not through their desired institutions.”
The organisations also directed tertiary institutions to use the verified results provided by JAMB for screening, admission processing and other administrative purposes.
