AMLSN congratulates Etukudoh on AABB induction

The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) has congratulated Professor Nkereuwem Sunday Etukudoh on his induction as a Nigerian member of the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB), describing the achievement as a major milestone for Nigeria’s medical laboratory science profession.

The association said Etukudoh’s induction into the international body further affirmed his standing as a distinguished medical laboratory scientist and strengthened Nigeria’s visibility in global haematology, transfusion medicine and biotherapies.

In a congratulatory statement issued in Abuja, and signed by the National President of AMLSN, Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, the association said the achievement was a source of pride to the profession and the country.

It noted that Etukudoh’s recent induction into leading international medical societies demonstrated the capacity of Nigerian medical laboratory scientists to compete and excel at the highest levels of global scientific practice.

The statement described him as the only Nigerian professor in the British Society for Haematology (BSH), the United Kingdom’s leading authority on patient care and knowledge sharing in haematology since 1960.

According to AMLSN, his membership of both the BSH and AABB has established an important link between clinical practice in West Africa and international standards in haematology and transfusion science.

It added that the recognition had implications beyond individual achievement, noting that it could strengthen Nigeria’s participation in global discussions on blood safety, transfusion medicine and the development of biotherapies.

The association called on the Federal Government and other stakeholders in the health sector to recognise and celebrate Etukudoh’s achievement while providing greater support for medical laboratory scientists making significant contributions to scientific research and healthcare delivery.

It stressed that increased investment in medical laboratory science, research and the training of young professionals would improve diagnostic services, strengthen blood safety systems and contribute to better health outcomes for Nigerians.

AMLSN also emphasised the need to encourage more Nigerian medical laboratory scientists to pursue international collaborations and participate in advanced scientific research.

It said Etukudoh’s career reflected a combination of academic excellence, professional leadership and commitment to developing the next generation of medical laboratory scientists.

The statement added that his involvement in mentoring young professionals in Nigeria, alongside collaborations in emerging areas of international biotherapies, offered an inspiring example for practitioners at home and in the diaspora.

It expressed the hope that his AABB membership would create further opportunities for collaboration, capacity building and the advancement of safe blood services in Nigeria and across Africa.

“We are proud of you. We celebrate this milestone as a victory for the profession and for the nation,” the association said.

It prayed that the recognition would open new avenues for scientific cooperation and strengthen Nigeria’s contribution to developments in blood science and related fields.

AMLSN reiterated that recognising and supporting outstanding medical laboratory scientists was essential to building a stronger healthcare system and ensuring that Nigerian professionals continued to make meaningful contributions to global medical science.
