Chiefs back coach and technical team after CAF exit
Kaizer Motaung Jnr says Chiefs remain committed to their sporting strategy while reviewing performances after their continental elimination.
Kaizer Chiefs have backed their head coach and technical team following their CAF Confederation Cup exit, with sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr calling for stability in a club statement dated Saturday, 24 October.
Motaung acknowledged supporters’ disappointment but said the club remained committed to its long-term sporting strategy. He said the coaching staff retained management’s confidence and that decisions would be based on analysis rather than the immediate reaction to a result.
The statement also committed the football department to reviewing performances and making improvements. Motaung referred to injuries affecting the squad without identifying the players concerned, and urged supporters to remain united.
The endorsement follows Friday’s second-leg match against Red Arrows of Zambia. Chiefs’ official match report records a 1–0 home win, which levelled the tie at 1–1 on aggregate, followed by a 3–2 penalty-shootout defeat.
That ended Chiefs’ attempt to reach the competition’s group stage. Their next scheduled cup assignment is against TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout last 16 at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, 27 October, with kick-off at 19:00 SAST.
