There were many positives to take from Manchester United’s 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
In Manchester United’s 5-2 win over Ipswich Town, Michael Carrick’s side secured three points for the first time this season.
The Reds had to wait a week longer than expected to achieve that following a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Hull City.

Bruno Fernandes: Paul Scholes took a cheap swipe at Bruno Fernandes after United lost the first game of the season. I hope he spends a segment of his upcoming podcast apologising to the United captain, who will dominate the headlines for his stellar hat-trick against Ipswich Town. The 31-year-old pulled all the strings in the final third.
Bryan Mbeumo: Assisted by Fernandes for his first goal of the season, Bryan Mbeumo’s finishing lacked quality at times. The goal against Ipswich Town will come as a major relief because it opens his account for the season.
Kobbie Mainoo: It was Kobbie Mainoo’s first competitive start of the season as he started alongside Youri Tielemans. They both dictated the tempo of the match in the middle of the pitch, especially with United dominating possession throughout the game. Mainoo was the standout of the pair because he carried out most of the dirty work.
Marcus Rashford: Making his first United start since December 2024, Marcus Rashford looks like he has a point to prove. His work ethic was on full show in his attempts to make something happen in the final third and by tracking back whenever possession was lost.
Luke Shaw: United may have scored five goals and secured three points, but the performance wasn’t fully convincing. Luke Shaw’s defending for Ipswich Town’s opening goal left a giant stain on the performance.
