Standard Bank plc has officially unveiled a one-year K250 million sponsorship package for police outfit Blue Eagles Football Club on Monday.
The package was unveiled in Lilongwe City.
As part of the sponsorship package, the club will be renamed Standard Bank Blue Eagles Football Club, with the funding covering playing kits and administrative support for the team.
Speaking at the sponsorship package unveiling ceremony in Lilongwe, Standard Bank Chief Executive Officer Phillip Madinga said the bank chose to partner with Eagles because of the club’s in recent years and its potential for further growth. consistent performance
“Blue Eagles really shows discipline that comes through the Malawi Police Service, and that attracted us, as a brand, to believe that we can have a partner we can trust,” he said.
As part of the wider partnership, the Malawi Police Service said it would explore the possibility of supporting community initiatives and the rehabilitation of selected police roadblocks.
Madinga said the sponsorship was, therefore, intended not only to support the club’s immediate operational needs but also to contribute to initiatives that could have a bigger social impact.
Inspector General of Police and Eagles patron Richard Luhanga thanked Standard Bank for the sponsorship, saying the support would help create an enabling environment for the team to perform better.
He also called on the team to remain disciplined and focused as it represents both the Malawi Police Service and its new corporate partner.
“The team has done well so far and we expect them to continue with the same momentum and even push more, now that there is this partnership,” Luhanga said.
Meanwhile, Malawi National Council of Sports Board Chairperson Jim Kalua has said proper investment remains critical to the development and success of sport in the country.
Kalua commended Standard Bank for its continued support towards sports, saying sustained investment provides sporting institutions and athletes with the resources required to compete effectively.
