Major Komani Drug Bust: Trio Arrested with R720 000 Methcathinone Haul on N6

EASTERN CAPE — A major Komani drug bust has resulted in the arrest of three suspects found in possession of 120 kilograms of Methcathinone (CAT), with an estimated street value exceeding R720 000. The joint operation, executed by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) B shift and Crime Intelligence (CI) members, was praised by District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph for striking a decisive blow against narcotics threatening the Chris Hani District.

On the night of 13 September 2026, law enforcement officers acted on credible intelligence regarding a champagne-coloured Toyota Fortuner with an Eastern Cape registration plate. The vehicle was travelling from Bridge Camp in Cofimvaba en route to Komani. Officers strategically intercepted the SUV on the N6 highway as it approached the Ultra City garage.

Upon stopping the vehicle, authorities discovered three occupants: two males and one female, who was reportedly identified as an illegal foreign national. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered the 120 kg stash of CAT. In a bid to evade arrest, the suspects allegedly attempted to bribe a police official with R2 000 in cash.

The trio, aged between 41 and 54, was apprehended on the spot. Authorities successfully seized the illicit drugs, the R2 000 bribery cash, and the Toyota Fortuner, which is believed to have been used as an instrument in the commission of the crime.

The suspects face formal charges of dealing in drugs and bribing a police official. The third suspect faces an additional charge for contravention of the Immigration Act. They were detained and scheduled to appear before the Komani Magistrate’s Court on 15 September 2026.

District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph publicly commended the joint SAPS team for their sterling work in executing the bust. He issued a stern warning to individuals attempting to infest the streets of the Chris Hani District with destructive substances, emphasizing the police force’s unwavering commitment to protecting the future of the youth from the scourge of drugs.
