NDLEA seeks collaboration with FRSC against drug abuse, other crimes in Abia

Leonard Nnadim, Abia State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has called for stronger collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in the fight against drug abuse, impaired driving and other forms of crime in the State.

Nnadim made the call Wednesday when he paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Abia State Command, as part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration.

Nnadim emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration between both agencies, particularly in addressing the dangers posed by illicit drugs to road users and the wider society.

He highlighted the Agency’s policy on Drug Integrity Testing, especially for prospective cadets awaiting recruitment, and stressed the need for both agencies to work closely to ensure that Abia State remains safe, peaceful and free from drug-related crime.

He noted that effective inter-agency cooperation remains critical to protecting lives, maintaining public safety and preventing the devastating consequences of drug abuse on individuals and communities.

Ngozi Ezeonu, the FRSC Sector Commander, welcomed the NDLEA delegation and expressed the Corps readiness to deepen cooperation with the Agency.

She requested that the NDLEA should always be available whenever their intervention is required, particularly in situations involving road traffic offenders who may require drug integrity testing.

She further called on the NDLEA to join them in their Ember Months campaign, noting that the collaboration would provide an opportunity to sensitise members of the congregation on the dangers of drug abuse.

She further called for greater collaboration in tackling drug-related risks on the highways.

The Sector Commander also requested that the NDLEA conduct a sensitisation programme for FRSC officers on drug abuse, the dangers of driving under the influence of psychoactive substances, and measures for identifying and addressing drug-related risks among road users.

The visit featured an exchange of plaque awards between the two agencies, symbolising mutual appreciation and a shared commitment to strengthening the fight against drug abuse while promoting safer roads and a crime-free Abia State
