As part of the efforts to equip youths with digital skills, foster innovation and create new employment opportunities, the federal government has commenced plans to establish a Technology Innovation Hub in Taraba State.
The Minister of Youth Development, Hon. Ayodele Olawande, disclosed this when he received the chairman of the Taraba State Youth Development Agency (TSYDA), Prince Gara Nongha and his delegation, yesterday in Abuja.
Hon. Olawande said the proposed hub would complement the youth empowerment initiatives of Governor Agbu Kefas by creating a platform, where young Tarabans could acquire relevant technological skills, develop innovative ideas and participate in the emerging digital economy.
He said the initiative was part of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s efforts to position Nigerian youths to take advantage of opportunities created by technological advancement.
“I wish to inform you that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is considering plans to establish a Technology Innovation Hub in Taraba.
“This is to complement the efforts of Governor Agbu Kefas towards preparing young people for a productive future.
“The proposed Technology Innovation Hub is targeted at providing opportunities for young Nigerians to acquire relevant digital and technological skills to participate meaningfully in the emerging digital economy,” he said.
The minister further urged Taraba youths to support the Tinubu administration, including its re-election bid, saying continuity was necessary to sustain programmes aimed at expanding opportunities for young Nigerians.
Earlier, Comrade Nongha said the proposed innovation hub would open new frontiers for young Tarabans to transform innovative ideas into viable businesses and employment opportunities.
He called for a stronger partnership between the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and TSYDA, stressing that collaboration in technology, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and innovation would help accelerate youth empowerment in the state.
“This is a significant commitment to the young people of Taraba. The proposed hub will provide opportunities for our youths to acquire relevant digital and technological skills, nurture innovative ideas, develop businesses and participate meaningfully in the emerging digital economy,” Nongha said.
The TSYDA chairman, then commended Olawande for his commitment to youth development and expressed the agency’s readiness to work with the ministry to translate the proposed collaboration into practical programmes capable of delivering sustainable benefits to youths across the state.
Comrade Nongha also appreciated the minister for his recent visit to Taraba, where he attended the Kefas Youth Empowerment Programme and witnessed the unveiling of the Taraba State Youth Development Roadmap 2026–2031 and the Long-Term Taraba Youth Agenda 2050.
