Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled an attempted advance by armed terrorists towards Ghandi town in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The troops acted on credible intelligence about the movement of an armed group towards the community on Sunday, August 30, according to a statement signed by Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division.
Osoba said the troops “swiftly deployed to strategic positions near Ghandi Bridge to intercept the threat.”
He said the troops engaged the terrorists on sighting them, adding that they “overpowered the group and forced them to retreat in disarray.”
“During the confrontation, several insurgents sustained gunshot wounds and attempted to escape by jumping into the adjacent river,” the statement said.
Following the encounter, the troops conducted a clearance and search operation at daybreak, recovering one AK-47 rifle, one loaded magazine, additional ammunition and other personal effects abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
The Army said search and mop-up operations remained ongoing in the area to locate the fleeing attackers.
The statement assured that troops would continue to sustain offensive operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and protect communities across Sokoto State.
