Sonja Madzikanda Strikes Deal With Chivayo Family Over Late Businessman’s Estate
Sonja Madzikanda has reached an agreement with the Chivayo family that could see her jointly administer the estate of her late ex-husband, businessman Wicknell Chivayo. The proposed arrangement would put her alongside his sister, Esther Chivayo, as co-executor.
The agreement marks a significant development in the administration of Chivayo’s estate, particularly given that Madzikanda was pursuing a US$25 million divorce settlement when he died.
Her lawyer, Rungano Mahuni of Mahuni Gidiri Law Chambers, formally notified the Master of the High Court of the agreement on Tuesday, 4 November 2026.
Sonja Madzikanda And Esther Chivayo Agree To Co-Execute Estate
In correspondence to the Master of the High Court, Mahuni confirmed that the parties had reached an agreement following consultations.
He wrote:
“We are pleased to advise that, following consultations between the interested parties, consensus has been reached for the appointment of co-executors to the estate, the co-executors being Ms Sonja Louise Madzikanda and Ms Esther Chivayo respectively.”
The lawyers also confirmed that a written agreement had been signed and requested that it be placed on Chivayo’s estate record for consideration.
Madzikanda and the late businessman share two young children. Esther Chivayo is represented by lawyer Caleb Mucheche.
Master Of High Court Must Approve Chivayo Estate Arrangement
The proposed arrangement is not yet final. It still requires consideration and approval by the Master of the High Court.
If approved, the two women will jointly oversee important estate administration responsibilities. These include compiling an inventory of Chivayo’s assets, considering claims from creditors and determining how the estate should be distributed.
Madzikanda had been suing her former husband for a US$25 million divorce settlement before his death.
Wicknell Chivayo, 43, died on 30 September 2026 in a helicopter crash at Kudenga Farm in Marondera, Mashonaland East.
His wife, Lucy Muteke, her aide, Sanelisiwe Magagula, and pilots Captain Kelvin Soda and Captain Courage Mutavirwa also died in the accident.
The Master of the High Court’s decision will determine whether Madzikanda and Esther Chivayo proceed as joint executors.
