We can’t go to work – Nawara Ltd. alleges armed takeover of mining concession

Nawara Company Limited’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Doris Attoh, has alleged that CMS Pro and AA Construction have taken over the company’s mining concession, preventing its workers from accessing the site since August 12, 2026.
Speaking on*** Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem***, Ms Attoh claimed that armed individuals had occupied the concession and taken over the company’s offices, making it impossible for Nawara to continue its operations.
She further alleged that three people had been killed and more than 10 others injured in connection with the ongoing dispute.
According to her, the situation has persisted despite the company’s efforts to resolve the matter and regain access to its operations.
“Since August 12, 2026, we have been unable to operate freely because CMS Pro and AA Construction have taken over our concession and offices. There are armed men at the site, and our workers cannot even go to work,” she said.
Mrs Attoh argued that the Minerals Commission is the authority responsible for granting mining concessions and maintained that the company had not been presented with any official documents authorising the alleged takeover.
She said Nawara operates as a large-scale mining company and holds a mining lease that was recently ratified by Parliament.
“We have our lease, which was recently ratified by Parliament, and we have no issues with the government. We do not understand why people have taken over our concession without presenting any official documentation,” she stated.
The Corporate Affairs Manager also alleged that some individuals had linked the operation to Alfred Mahama, a brother of President John Dramani Mahama.
She claimed that Nawara’s Managing Director contacted Mr Mahama, who allegedly confirmed that he had sent the individuals to the site.
The claim has not been independently verified, and no response from Mr Mahama was available at the time of publication.
Mrs Attoh said the company was concerned about the alleged presence of armed men and the reported casualties, calling for urgent intervention to address the situation.
