Who Is Mescal Wasilewski? The Sober Coach Behind Jodie Sweetin’s Fourth Marriage

Mescal Michael Wasilewski may be married to a familiar Hollywood face, but his own professional life has largely been built away from the entertainment spotlight.

The husband of Full House and Fuller House actress Jodie Sweetin is a licensed clinical social worker, therapist, interventionist and sober coach who has spent more than two decades working in addiction and mental health treatment.

His career has focused on helping people dealing with substance abuse, trauma and other mental health challenges, giving him a professional connection to the world of recovery that has also played an important role in Sweetin’s own life.

His Education Led Him Into Mental Health Work

Wasilewski was raised in California and attended Santa Monica High School before studying sociology at California State University, Northridge.

He later earned a Master of Social Work from Hunter College in New York City, building the academic foundation for his career in clinical and behavioural health.

Over the years, he has worked with clients experiencing a wide range of mental health and addiction-related difficulties, including adolescents. His professional experience also includes case management and intervention work.

Wasilewski Is an Experienced Sober Coach

A major part of Wasilewski’s professional background is his work in addiction recovery.

As an intervention specialist and sober coach, he has helped people who may be reluctant to enter treatment or who need additional support while maintaining sobriety.

His training includes several therapeutic approaches, including EMDR, while his experience also covers both 12-step and harm-reduction methods.

Wasilewski has worked with Alyst Health, where he has been listed as a clinician providing at-home treatment and recovery services for people dealing with mental health and substance-use challenges.

Despite his professional experience in the field, there is no public indication that he acted as Sweetin’s personal sober coach.

His Relationship With Jodie Sweetin Began Long Distance

Sweetin and Wasilewski reportedly met through mutual friends in 2017, beginning a relationship while living on opposite sides of the United States.

At the time, Wasilewski was based in New York while Sweetin remained in Los Angeles. Their relationship developed despite the distance, eventually becoming more serious as the two spent more time together.

Sweetin later described their relationship as one in which things seemed to naturally fall into place when Wasilewski eventually moved to the West Coast.

After several years together, the couple announced their engagement in January 2022, shortly before Sweetin’s 40th birthday.

Sweetin celebrated the announcement publicly, describing Wasilewski as her person and expressing excitement about the life they would build together.

A Small Malibu Wedding Became a Double Celebration

Sweetin and Wasilewski married on 30 July 2022 in an intimate ceremony at a private estate in Malibu.

Rather than staging a large celebrity wedding, the couple kept the celebration relatively small, with approximately 50 guests attending.

Among those present were several of Sweetin’s former Full House and Fuller House colleagues, including John Stamos, Candace Cameron Bure and Andrea Barber.

Sweetin wore a white lace Lili Bridal gown featuring delicate appliques and a long train. She walked down the aisle with her father, Sam, while her two daughters, Zoie and Beatrix, were involved in the ceremony.

The couple also gave the girls matching yellow-gold and diamond necklaces as part of the celebration.

Sweetin later explained that she did not want the wedding to become overly elaborate or fussy.

Mescal’s Birthday Made the Wedding Even More Personal

The timing of the ceremony added another personal detail to the celebration.

Wasilewski’s birthday fell immediately after the wedding, turning the occasion into something of a combined wedding and birthday celebration.

The day after marrying Sweetin, he reflected publicly on the milestone, describing waking up beside his new wife as an especially memorable birthday gift.

For Sweetin, one of the defining memories of the ceremony came when she first saw Wasilewski at the end of the aisle.

She later recalled that she became so focused on him that she barely noticed the flowers, guests or other details surrounding the ceremony.

Sweetin’s Recovery Journey Predates Their Relationship

The couple’s relationship is particularly significant because of Sweetin’s long and public history with addiction and recovery.

After becoming famous as a child on Full House, Sweetin began drinking at 14. Her substance-abuse problems later escalated, eventually involving methamphetamine.

She entered rehabilitation at 26 and began rebuilding her life through recovery.

Sweetin has said she became sober in 2008, although she later experienced a relapse. She has described herself as consistently sober since 2011 and has repeatedly spoken about the importance of maintaining her recovery.

Her experience eventually led her to study addiction treatment and become certified as a drug and alcohol counsellor.

Her Memoir Documented the Darkest Period of Her Life

Sweetin detailed her struggles in her 2009 memoir, unSweetined, which chronicled her transition from child star to someone battling addiction before finding a path toward recovery.

The book became an important part of her advocacy work, allowing her to speak publicly about addiction, sobriety and the challenges of rebuilding a life after substance abuse.

She has repeatedly described sobriety as the foundation of her life, emphasising the importance of protecting recovery above other priorities.

Her openness about the subject has also earned support from people who worked with her during her years on Full House.

Sweetin Has Been Married Four Times

Wasilewski is Sweetin’s fourth husband.

Before their marriage, the actress was married to Los Angeles police officer Shaun Holguin from 2002 until their divorce in 2006.

She later married film transportation coordinator Cody Herpin in July 2007. Their marriage ended in 2010, and the couple share daughter Zoie Laurel.

Sweetin’s third marriage was to musician and DJ Morty Coyle. They became engaged in 2011 and married in Beverly Hills in March 2012.

Their daughter, Beatrix Carlin, was born in 2010. Sweetin and Coyle eventually divorced in 2016.

Her marriage to Wasilewski therefore marked another chapter after three previous relationships had ended.

Her Two Daughters Were Part of the New Marriage

Sweetin entered her marriage to Wasilewski as a mother of two.

Her daughters, Zoie and Beatrix, were included in the Malibu wedding, making the ceremony a family occasion rather than simply a celebration between the couple.

The decision to involve them reflected the family life Sweetin had built before meeting Wasilewski and the role they would play in her new marriage.

Sweetin Continues to Balance Acting and Advocacy

Marriage has not slowed Sweetin’s professional activities.

She has continued acting in television productions, including projects for networks known for romantic and family-oriented films, while also taking on more dramatic roles.

Her work has expanded beyond acting through podcasting, public appearances and recovery advocacy.

Sweetin also revisited her memoir by narrating a new audiobook edition of unSweetined in 2025, bringing her recovery story to a new audience.

Her Hollywood Career Still Produces Surprises

Despite her long association with Full House, Sweetin has spoken about how the economics of streaming have changed the value of residual payments from older television programmes.

She revealed during an appearance on The McBride Rewind podcast that she had recently received a residual cheque worth just one cent from her years on Full House.

The comment highlighted how dramatically the television industry has changed since the sitcom originally aired between 1987 and 1995.

Sweetin has continued working despite those changes, combining acting with writing, podcasting and advocacy.

What Is Jodie Sweetin’s Net Worth?

Celebrity Net Worth has estimated Sweetin’s fortune at around $1 million, although celebrity wealth figures published online are estimates rather than independently verified financial statements.

Her income has come from several sources over the years, including acting, television residuals, book royalties, podcasting, public appearances and recovery-related speaking engagements.

Her roles in Full House and Fuller House remain among the most recognisable parts of her career.

A Marriage Built Around a Shared Understanding of Recovery

Sweetin and Wasilewski’s relationship stands out partly because his professional world overlaps with an important part of her personal history.

While there is no public evidence that he served as her personal sobriety coach, his experience as a therapist, interventionist and recovery professional gives him a detailed understanding of addiction and mental health.

For Sweetin, who has spent years rebuilding her life after addiction and turning that experience into advocacy, the relationship represents another chapter in a journey that has moved far beyond her childhood fame.

The couple have maintained a relatively private life since their Malibu wedding, while Sweetin continues to work in entertainment and speak openly about the recovery journey that has shaped much of her adult life.
