
The Niger State Police Command says it has arrested several suspects linked to alleged kidnapping, armed robbery, drug peddling and other criminal activities across the state.
The Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, said three suspected members of a gang allegedly operating under the guise of a Yan Sakai vigilante group were arrested on August 23, 2026, at Uraga village in Mariga Local Government Area.
The suspects were arrested by police surveillance operatives attached to the Kontagora Area Command following credible information about their alleged activities.
According to the police, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects and four others formed a seven-member syndicate allegedly using the guise of a vigilante group to perpetrate kidnapping and armed robbery. The suspects were also said to have allegedly confessed to killing at least three victims during their alleged kidnapping operations and stealing their motorcycles.
The police said further investigation showed that the stolen motorcycles were allegedly sold to one Awalu of Beri, while a search of the suspects’ residences led to the recovery of one pump-action rifle. The Command said efforts were ongoing to arrest the alleged receiver and other members of the gang.

In another development, the police said a man was arrested in Tafa Local Government Area of Kaduna State for allegedly converting a Bajaj motorcycle entrusted to him for personal use and subsequently absconding. The motorcycle was recovered and released to its rightful owner after the suspect was charged to court.
The Command also disclosed that its operatives arrested a 25-year-old man who was allegedly found at New Market Junction with ten packs of suspected Colorado cannabis, four cards of Rophynol tablets and a sachet of suspected methamphetamine, popularly known as ice.
Meanwhile, police tactical teams have arrested six suspects in connection with the alleged stabbing and killing of 35-year-old Nafiu Mohammed in the Sabon-Titi area of Maitumbi, Minna. The suspects were arrested following the incident on August 25, while police said one Muhammad Sani, whom the suspects allegedly identified as being responsible for the killing, was still being sought.
The Command further said three other suspects were arrested during a raid on criminal blackspots along the Maitumbi-Gwada Road, where operatives allegedly recovered cannabis, a cutlass, four scissors and shisha pipes with pots.
The police said all suspects remain under investigation and would be prosecuted upon completion of investigations.
