Unverified Claim Links EFF Councillors’ Deaths to Foreign-Owned Spaza Shop

A post on X claims that two Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) councillors were shot dead in Tswelopele, Tembisa, after they allegedly tried to rob a spaza shop owned by foreign nationals who are said to be in the country illegally. The post shows a graphic photo of two bodies lying in the street and warns people not to vote for the EFF “at their own peril.” No evidence has been given for any of this. There has been no confirmation from the police, the party or any other credible source.

It is not known whether the two men were really EFF councillors, or whether they were killed in the way the post describes. The post does not say when the shooting happened or whether a case has been opened. Without those details, the claim rests only on the photo and the word of the person who posted it. The photo does not prove who the men were, where it was taken or how they died.

Some users pushed back. One commenter said the men were killed by another South African and not by the shop owners. A few others said the post should not be shared without proof. Most replies, however, backed the post’s message, blaming foreign shop owners and attacking the EFF. The post ties a serious criminal allegation to a political warning at a time when an election is near, which gives it a charged tone.

Readers should treat the claim with caution. Until the police or the EFF say something, there is no way to tell who the two men were or what happened in Tswelopele.
