Desmond Ofei names Ghana U-23 squad for AFCON qualifiers

Ghana coach Desmond Ofei has selected a 26-man Black Meteors squad to begin preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2027 qualifiers.The players are expected to report to the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Tuesday, September 29. Their initial programme will include intensive training and a series of friendly matches designed to build fitness, confidence and team understanding.The squad is scheduled to remain together until the qualifiers begin in November, although some players may temporarily return to their clubs when required. They will then rejoin the national team for the next phase of preparations.Ghana have received a bye into the second qualifying round, where they will meet the winner of the first-round tie between Togo and Libya. The first leg is scheduled for November 9, with the return match taking place on November 17.If the Black Meteors advance, they will face the winner of the tie involving Sao Tome and Principe, Equatorial Guinea or Niger between March 22 and 30, 2027. Seven qualifying teams will join hosts Egypt at the finals.Success would also revive Ghanas Olympic hopes. The country last appeared at the mens Olympic football tournament at Athens 2004.Below is the 26-man squad:
