Delta Marks World Sight Day With Free Eye Screening, Treatment
The Delta State Government has marked World Sight Day 2026 with free eye screenings, public awareness campaigns and eye care services across the state to promote access to eye health services.
The activities, held on October 8 under the theme “Love Your Eyes: Every Story Counts,” took place in Asaba, Ughelli and Warri, representing Delta North, Central and South senatorial districts.
Among the eye health professionals participating in the campaign was Dr Oghenenyerhovwo Aghoghovwia Adegor, a Senior Registrar and ophthalmologist at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara.
Adegor was part of the team providing eye screenings, public education and clinical support, including reading glasses for eligible patients, cataract surgery services and referrals for further treatment.
The statewide campaign also featured a road walk to raise awareness about eye health and the importance of regular eye examinations.
The programme was organised by the Delta State Ministry of Health and the Delta State Eye Health Committee under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme.
Partners supporting the campaign included the World Health Organisation (WHO), Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), Zenith Bank and the Chief Ogheneovo Edewor Foundation.
The foundation commended the organisers, Dr Adegor and other ophthalmologists at DELSUTH and across the state for their contributions to eye health awareness and efforts to improve access to eye care services.
