The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Saviour Otu Adim, in connection with the alleged murder of his six-year-old stepdaughter, Miss Goodness Okon, in Bakassi Local Government Area of the state.
ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Cross River State Police Command, stated this in a press release issued on Friday, 28 August 2026.
He said, “The Cross River State Police Command has arrested Saviour Otu Adim, male, aged 29 years, in connection with the alleged murder of his six-year-old stepdaughter, Miss Goodness Ekpo Okon.”
According to the police spokesman, the incident was reported on 28 August 2026 by Mrs Itoro Udofia, who alleged that the suspect assaulted the deceased, resulting in her death.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect had allegedly accused the child of being a witch.
The Police Public Relations Officer further disclosed that the suspect is currently in police custody. The remains of the deceased have been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.
He added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar for further investigation.
Akata urged members of the public to protect children, promptly report cases of abuse, and refrain from spreading unverified information or taking the law into their own hands.
