‘It’s Rather Unfortunate’ – Maame Dokono Reacts to Kwame Dzokoto’s Death

According to GhanaWeb on Friday, October 23, 2026, veteran Ghanaian actress Grace Nortey, popularly known as Maame Dokono, has expressed sadness over the death of actor, comedian and broadcaster Seth Kwame Dzokoto, describing the development as unfortunate.

Dzokoto, who was 51 years old, reportedly died on Thursday, October 22, 2026, after collapsing during a live morning radio discussion at Owass FM in Tarkwa, in the Western Region of Ghana.

His death has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s entertainment industry, with fans, colleagues and public figures expressing sadness over the loss of a man who contributed significantly to television, radio and comedy.

Maame Dokono’s reaction adds to the growing number of tributes from people who knew Dzokoto through his work in the entertainment industry. The veteran actress is among the familiar faces in Ghanaian showbiz who have witnessed the growth of the country’s film and television sectors over several decades.

Dzokoto became a household name through his memorable role as Judge Koboo in the popular Ghanaian television series Efiewura. His performance on the show earned him recognition among viewers who enjoyed his humour and distinctive acting style.

He also became widely known for hosting Edziban, a television programme that explored Ghanaian food, traditional recipes and the country’s rich culinary culture. Through the programme, he helped introduce audiences to different local dishes and highlighted the importance of food in Ghanaian culture.

Beyond acting and television presentation, Dzokoto worked in radio broadcasting and ventured into politics. In 2016, he contested the Tarkwa-Nsuaem parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), although he did not win the election.

His ability to work across different fields made him a recognisable personality in Ghana’s public life. For many viewers and listeners, he was not only an entertainer but also a familiar voice who had become part of their daily routines.

News of his death was confirmed by the management of Owass FM, where he had been participating in the station’s morning programme, Oman Nkoso.

According to the station’s account, Dzokoto suddenly took ill during the discussion and collapsed. Members of the team immediately rushed him to a hospital for medical attention, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The circumstances surrounding his death have left many Ghanaians in shock, particularly because he had reportedly arrived at the station to participate in the programme before the medical emergency occurred.

His passing has also renewed attention to his health struggles. In September 2026, Dzokoto spoke publicly about previous health challenges, including blood pressure and heart-related problems. He disclosed that he had received assistance to travel abroad for medical treatment and surgery.

At the time, he had reassured the public that he was recovering and doing well. His sudden death weeks later has therefore come as a painful surprise to many people who had followed his recovery.

Maame Dokono’s description of the development as unfortunate reflects the sadness surrounding the loss of the veteran entertainer. Her reaction comes as tributes continue to emerge from across Ghana’s entertainment and political communities.

Owass FM has appealed to the public and media organisations to respect the privacy of Dzokoto’s bereaved family and avoid spreading unverified information about the circumstances of his death.

As fans continue to mourn, Dzokoto’s performances in Efiewura, his work on Edziban and his contributions to broadcasting remain important parts of his legacy.

His death marks the loss of a familiar figure in Ghanaian entertainment, whose work reached audiences across different generations.
