US Vice President JD Vance has triggered a social media firestorm after making a bizarre public promise to meet Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton at a bar. Speaking to supporters in Lima, Ohio, Vance brought up Acton, who is running against Republican Vivek Ramaswamy in the state’s governor’s race, and said he had promised to meet her for drinks. “I understand she’s into that sort of thing, so I’m gonna try to get to know her,” Vance said, in remarks that quickly went viral online. Social media users wasted no time reacting, with one critic calling Vance “the most repulsive man in America.” Another questioned who such remarks were supposed to impress, while a third described the exchange as either awkward flirting or a political manoeuvre.
